Conperey Integrated Learning School, Inc.

Historical Background

While on a vehicle, the Rey couple, Arolf and Lilian, discussed the options for the pre-school education of their firstborn. It was hard for them to choose between sending the child to Kalibo, which is kilometers away from their home, or to enroll her at a nearby school situated along a busy and noisy airport in Caticlan. An idea of putting up a school came to their minds, considering the demand for preschool education in Caticlan and the parents who might share the same predicament as theirs.

Mr. Rey approached his grandfather, the late Dr. Constancio Irao Constantino, remembering that the latter was instrumental in putting up schools like Madyaas Institute, Sto. Nino Seminary and the Regional Science High School for Region VI (formerly Aklan Development High School).

At first, Dr. Constantino was skeptical of his grandson’s plan thinking that profit might just be his motivation given his entrepreneurial orientation. The educator tested the sincerity of the entrepreneur by setting two undertakings that should be accomplished, one task will take two months and the other in three weeks. The first task was finished a month behind schedule. The educator doubted. But when the second task was completed ahead of time, the “grand old man sprang into action”; thus, a new school was established and inaugurated on May 1999.

WHY CONPEREY?

The founders’ surnames CONstantino (for Dr. Constancio Irao Constantino), PElayo (maiden name of Dr. Concepcion Pelayo Constantino) and REY for Lilian REmaneses-Rey and Arolf Badana ReY; thus, Conperey Learning Center got its name. It started in SY 1999- 2000, with one room, one teacher and thirty two (32) kindergarten pupils. Two years later, it offered elementary education and transferred to another site, a rented building with seven rooms, eight teachers and one hundred ninety-five (195) pupils. The pioneer elementary class graduated on March 31, 2007.

Ten years after, in the year 2009, the Conperey Learning Center was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a non-stock, non-profit corporation. Finally acquiring a 1,246 sq. m. lot, it transferred to its permanent site along the national highway. By the summer of 2013, Conperey completed its three-storey building having 17 classrooms, with rooms for computer lab, a science lab, a library, and an audio-visual room. Along with its facilities, it also expanded its number of teachers, from1 to 18 and enrollment rose from 32 to 377.

Through the years, Conperey Learning Center, Inc. has proven its worth as a top-ranked school in the Division of Aklan. It prides itself as a reigning title holder of various English, Science, and Mathematics competitions in the district, division, regional, and national levels. Its graduates have found their way to the Philippine Science High School (PSHS), the most prestigious and competitive school in the country. With the completion of the Pre-Elementary and Elementary Levels, it was granted its Government Recognition in year 2009.

After years of consistently sending scholars to the PSHS, the administration decided to offer Secondary Education Program in SY 2010-2011. Its pioneer batch graduated in April 2014. With the full implementation of the said program, the DepEd advised the management to change the name of the school in relation to its application for Government Recognition for Secondary. Said change will also mark a transition to suit for the different programs offered in Pre-Elementary, Elementary, and Secondary. Thus, on April 2013, the name Conperey Learning Center, Inc. was amended to Conperey Integrated Learning School, Inc.

Armed with strong foundations of Basic Elementary Education, our former elementary graduates who spent their secondary education in the PSHS and RSHS-VI made their way to the prestigious universities of the country such as the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of Sto. Tomas, Mapua Institute of Technology, and the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy. They were joined by the pioneer secondary graduates of the CILS Batch 2014 and Batch 2015 who were the last to graduate prior to the implementation of the K to 12 Curriculum.

Manned by highly qualified and well-equipped teachers from a university considered as the Center of Excellence in Teacher Education in Western Visayas, and with the triad support of the parents, the administration, the community, CILS was shaped into what it is now.

Hence, the dream of a young man to own an enterprise thousands of sunrise ago had come true – not only one but two – each one complementing and validating each other. While the viable enterprise – the Speedwash Laundry finds its joy in the adage “It is better to give than to receive”, the Conperey Integrated Learning School, Inc., which was born out of necessity, will continue its mission of being “The Gateway” of the youths to quality education in the western part of Aklan.
